Introduction

In Oral and Dental Health Clinics of  medical centers, services are rendered for diagnosis and treatment of diseases regarding oral, dental and jaw health for both pediatric and adult patients. Informative trainings and seminars are held at our hospitals and medical centers on oral and dental health.

Diagnostic and Treatment Services Available in Oral and Dental Health Department

Diagnostic and Treatment services are available in Oral and Dental Health Clinics at hospitals and medical centers of Acıbadem Health Group as follows:

Oral, Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery

Surgical management of impacted wisdom teeth, resection of root tips, surgical correction of maxillofacial dislocations and fractures as well as surgical operations such as cyst and tumor operations are carried out at our unit.

Operations are carried out under general anesthesia, if required, at general anesthesia rooms, which are present in all Acıbadem Hospitals. Cosmetic restoration procedures, restoration of teeth color, whitening and lamina veneer restorations are also performed at our department.

Our department also deals with obstructed canals that involve root canal systems, broken canal tools, treatment of severely inflamed teeth, root fractures and retrograde fillers.

Endodontics

Endodontic treatment is also known as root canal treatment.

Cosmetic Dentistry

It includes operations performed as per requests and needs of patients.

Oral Implantology

Implant can be defined as an act of substituting the missing tooth artificially. Implant procedures can be used to eliminate functional and aesthetic problems of edentation for loss of one tooth along with loss of multiple teeth and total edentulism.

Orthodontics

This department deals with elimination and treatment of crooked teeth secondary to problems originating from teeth and/or jaws. The division guides maxillofacial growth (for pediatric patients), repairs problems secondary to bad habits (using pacifier longer than recommended, etc.) and eliminates all forms of mal positioned teeth. Orthodontic treatment can be applied at any age.

Pedodontics

Pedodontics division deals with dental problems of children at 3 to 12 years of age.

Periodontology

Treatments regarding gingival and periodontal bone diseases are carried out at this division. Besides treatment of acute and chronic periodontitis, gingival abscess and ulcerative gingival diseases, cosmetic procedures are also carried out, including but not limited to gummy smile (over-exposure of gums).

Prosthesis

These approaches cover porcelain veneer and lamina as well as use of zirconium for bridge and veneer restorations.

Temporomandibular Joint Unit

Temporomandibular joint is most commonly used joint in daily life, although we are not aware of this fact. This joint connects lower jaw to skull base and excessive loads or an impact-trauma may cause problems in temporomandibular joint.

Problems that involve TMJ are treated and TMJ surgery is carried out, if needed, at this unit.

General dentistry

Practice of caring for teeth to keep them healthy. This helps to avoid cavities, gum disease, enamel wear, and more. “The best defence is a good offense.” When it comes to oral health, this means keeping one’s smile whole and healthy is much easier than repairing teeth after they’re damaged. Therefore, it is recommended that each patient visit the dentist for prophylactic measures twice a year so that it can assess patient’s teeth and oral health, and, if necessary, in time to appoint appropriate preventive measures or early treatment. Preventive dentistry procedures range from the most basic services that have been used successfully for decades, to recent technological innovations.

KEY PREVENTIVE DENTISTRY TREATMENTS:

  • CARIES TREATMENT: Tooth decay is one of the most common diseases, resulting from the acidity of dental plaque and microbial interactions that cause the hard tissue of the tooth to become demineralised and cavities to form. Following the timely detection of decay, it is essential that the healthy dental hard tissue is cleaned and sealed.
  • OLD, DEFECTIVE SEALS REPLACEMENT: The older generation of seals have a high shrinkage factor, so eventually micro gaps that are invisible to the eye will appear between tooth and the surface of the seal. The bacteria that accumulate in the acidic medium caused by food residue can easily penetrate these micro gaps, and the teeth will begin to decay (resulting in hard tooth tissue destruction – or so-called secondary caries), while the wall of the tooth becomes thinner and one day may crack or break off. Modern seals have a minimal shrinkage factor, so the quality of the filling is improved and there is no risk of secondary caries risk. In addition, they are very aesthetically pleasing, durable and solid.
  • AESTHETIC TEETH FILLING RESTORATION: Aesthetic teeth filling restoration is a great way of beautifying Your teeth, while the sealing also provides a conservative treatment method. This dental restoration method allows the maximum preservation of the tooth tissue, while restoring the anatomical shape of the natural tooth, with a healthy tooth colour, transparency and lustre. Aesthetic fillings are recommended for teeth damaged by caries, as well as teeth that have changed colour, worn irregularly, a diastema (gap between teeth), improper closing, or for the rebuilding of teeth after a trauma. During the restoration of a tooth that has been heavily damaged, the chewing surface relief is restored depending on the functionality and aesthetics, which is particularly important for the chewing efficiency, keeping a good bite, and protecting the teeth from natural wear. Restorations are carried out with the highest quality natural materials to provide a healthy colour and transparency.
  • CHIPPED OR BROKEN TOOTH REPLACEMENT: Using modern filling materials that have been selected for their aesthetic appearance, strength and robustness, it is possible to restore a chipped tooth so that it becomes completely unnoticed, and the restoration will last for years. Your treatment physician will recommend the most suitable method for a tooth replacement.
  • TOOTH SENSITIVITY TREATMENT: Patients frequently complain of teeth sensitivity, with discomfort when eating, drinking cold drinks or just breathing in through the mouth. Once the cause of the sensitivity is found, it is easy to choose the right treatment – it may be simply rinsing with a formula containing fluoride, the application of a fluoride varnish or gel, a topless filling of the tooth neck or other methods.
